Alex Baker, the Member of Parliament for Aldershot and Farnborough, has written to local religious groups urging them to apply for funding to repair or improve their premises.
Her letter follows the announcement that the government has extended the Listed Places of Worship Grant Scheme with a £23million budget for the forthcoming financial year.
The scheme gives grants of up to £25,000 to cover the VAT on repairs of over £1,000 to listed buildings used as places of worship.
Alex Baker MP, said: “Places of worship are at the heart of our community here in Aldershot and Farnborough.
“The Labour government has acted to safeguard these spaces for the future by making £23million available, and I have written to as many local religious groups with listed buildings as I can, encouraging them to apply if they need funds for maintenance, repairs or improvements.
“Local religious organisations with listed premises can check to see if they are eligible here.”
