Rebuilding Frimley Park Hospital and improving health

Improving hospitals, healthcare and health in our community

Frimley Park will be among the first hospitals in the country to be rebuilt, as part of Labour’s multi-billion investment to deliver an NHS fit for the future.

The announcement came after my meeting with Wes Streeting, the Secretary for Health and Social Care, to impress upon him the urgency of the case for Frimley.

Work is now underway to consult patients, staff, and local community representatives about potential alternative sites, since the existing location cannot accommodate the necessary redevelopment.

I will be working with my fellow MPs, with health officials, staff and with the local community to ensure that the new Frimley Park Hospital is operational by 2030, and that it provides a state-of-the-art environment for patients and medical staff alike.

I recognise, of course, that there is much more to be done – it’s not just about the bricks and mortar.

So, two other announcements in February signalled good news for the local area.

The first showed that the NHS waiting list has been cut by almost 160,000 since the government took office, compared to a rise of almost 33,000 over the same period the previous year. The NHS offered an extra 2 million appointments – delivered in part by extra evening and weekend working – which means thousands of patients have received vital operations, scans, treatments, and consultations earlier than planned, helping them get back on with their lives and back to work sooner.

And, in the second, it was confirmed that hundreds of thousands of people across England will soon be able to access urgent and emergency dental care as the government and NHS rolls out 700,000 extra urgent appointments, more than 6,000 of which will be in the Frimley health catchment area.

I will be working to ensure that our community shares the benefits of Labour’s investment in health and social care.  Sign up for my newsletter for future updates.
