Alex Baker, Member of Parliament for Aldershot and Farnborough, visited the Jenner House Surgery in Farnborough in early June to talk to GPs and staff about the plans to modernise their premises.

The busy doctor’s surgery on the Cove Road in Farnborough will be among the first in the country to be upgraded, thanks to the Labour Government’s £102 million increase in funding for health practice modernisation nationwide.

The cash injection will allow the Jenner House team to improve access for disabled people and introduce baby-changing facilities, opening up new spaces to improve productivity and patient care.

Alex met the GPs, healthcare professionals and other staff to see the modernisation plans for herself, and to discuss the plans.

She welcomed the government’s cash injection which is expected to deliver over 8.3 million more GP appointments each year across the country.

“Right now, many GP surgeries could be seeing more patients, but don’t have enough room or the right facilities to accommodate them,” she said.

“So, I’m really pleased to see the Labour Government back its action to recruit more than 1,500 new GPs nationally, by announcing record levels of investment in the bricks and mortar too.

“The amazing team at Jenner House will be among the first in the country to benefit.  The proposed changes have the potential to open up new spaces for appointments and consultations.

“It’s a small but significant step on the road towards eliminating the dreaded ‘8am scramble’ to get a GP appointment.”

Baljite Libra-Dhillon, Jenner House Practice Business Manager, said: “We’re delighted with this investment which will allow us to renew our premises and improve access, facilities and care for our patients.”

Health and Social Care Secretary, Wes Streeting, added: “It will be a long road, but this government is putting in the work to fix our NHS and make it fit for the future.

“For too long our GP surgeries have been neglected, allowing waiting lists to rise and stopping doctors treating more patients.

“The extra investment and reform this government is making, as part of its Plan for Change, will transform our NHS so it can once again be there for you when you need it.”

Forces families deserve the very best start.

That’s why I’ve written a report with recommendations to ensure Best Start Family Hubs are equipped to meet the realities of military life.

From deployment to relocation, the challenges forces families face are unique – and they deserve the right support. That’s why I’ve brought together the voices of serving personnel and military charities, to make sure these hubs serve their needs.

I’m now taking these recommendations to the Education Secretary so that hubs genuinely work for forces families.
