ALEX BAKER MP’S SPEECH TO PARLIAMENT DURING THE NORTHERN IRELAND TROUBLES BILL CARRY OVER MOTION
For months I have been meeting with veterans, pressing Government Ministers, and written directly to the Secretary of State. My message has been clear: we need stronger protections for our veterans in the Northern Ireland Troubles Bill.

The previous Conservative council tore down our leisure centre, leaving a hole in the town centre and families without a swimming pool for years.
Now we are turning the page.
Funding’s secured. Building starts this summer. A new leisure centre by the end of next year.
That’s the difference a Labour MP, working with a Labour council and Government, makes for our community.
Rushmoor's on track. Don’t turn back. Vote Labour, 7 May🌹

For months I have been meeting with veterans, pressing Government Ministers, and written directly to the Secretary of State. My message has been clear: we need stronger protections for our veterans in the Northern Ireland Troubles Bill.
It’s encouraging to see that Ministers have listened, but there is still so much more to do. We need further reassurances. For our veterans, and to finally bring an end to this cycle of uncertainty.
I am reserving my judgement on this Bill until it gives every veteran the clarity and confidence they need.

Congratulations Farnborough and Aldershot Lions Club on another spectacular Classic Car show. This is always a wonderful event and it was great to see our town centre humming with people this weekend. Thank you to everyone who came and helped raise money for good causes, and well done to the organisers for all the hard work that made this possible.
🦁 The Lions make such a difference in our community. If you would like to get involved or find out more about what they do, please check out their Facebook page. ... See MoreSee Less

Housing is something residents always ask me about on the doorstep. That’s why we are…
🏠 Providing high-quality homes at Union Yard for local people
🏠 Taking tough action against bad landlords, with enforcement notices and prohibition orders
🏠 Backing the Renters’ Rights Act, banning no-fault evictions and unfair rent hikes
Made possible by a Labour MP working with a Labour Council and Government to deliver fairer and safer housing for residents across Rushmoor

Happy St George’s Day to everyone across Aldershot and Farnborough🏴
Watching the flag-raising in Aldershot this morning, and being surrounded by our community, I couldn't help but reflect on what makes me proud to be English and the values that define us.
At the heart of St George's story is courage and hope , the belief that goodness can overcome evil, and that strength is at its best when guided by kindness.
When I’m out in our towns I see those values in action every day. In those who serve, and the families and friends in our community who stand behind them, supporting one another.
Wishing you all a very happy St George’s Day!

I was delighted to host my friend General Sir Roly Walker at Cody Technology Park last week, and to introduce him to some of our brilliant local businesses, including SAAB, SiXworks, Sopra Steria, and QinetiQ.
As Chief of the General Staff, he is focused on ensuring that our troops have the best possible equipment to keep this country safe. So it was great to introduce these businesses, which, as well as employing local people, help build so much of that vital defence capability here on our doorstep.
I’m looking forward to seeing this cooperation develop, to increase opportunities for our community and strengthen our national security. ... See MoreSee Less

I spent Saturday afternoon cheering on Farnborough Football Club at their final home game of the campaign. It was a tough result after a long and hard season, but we can all be proud that Boro are staying up after the team rallied and fought off the threat of relegation over recent weeks. It was also great to see Aaron Kuhl back on the pitch after his serious injury and the U15s girls team celebrating their own success.
Thank you to all the players, staff, supporters and people behind the scenes who put so much time and effort into our club. Good luck to Farnborough FC Women too as they wrap up their campaign. You are the heart of our community - and you’ll continue to have my every support next season. 💛💙
